About to Surf

It's been a while since I last posted a picture for Weekday Photos, and for this week on Nature Challenge, it's about the "Ocean Waves," and here is my share:

Surfers

A picture I took during the Surf Break 4 in Urbiztondo Beach - San Juan, La Union. Every year, during the last weekend of October, this beach holds the Surf Break, and because I am always in La Union during this time of the year, I make sure I include watching the festivities on my planner.

Of course, I am now preparing for my travel north come October for the next Surf Break. This time I will make sure I would take lots and lots of pictures!

My Oreo

We have seven cats in our house and if Paborito is my favorite, the one closest to me is Oreo, one of the youngest cats we have. He just turned one year old, and although he would (at times) run away whenever I come near to carry him, he is just the kind of a cat that would always rub himself in my legs. This cat also loves my feet, he would always lie next to my feet whenever I am in the kitchen to prepare foods.

When I took this picture, I was actually chasing a dragonfly. Seeing I was up to something, my Oreo came with me, and tried to chase the dragonfly, too! :) However, both of us failed in doing so. Walking back inside the house, I think my dear cat felt my sadness, and he just stayed there, staring at me. I thought he looked cute, so I knelt and took a picture of him.

Sa May Bintana

Theme for this week on the Urban subsection of Weekday Photos is "Windows," and here is my share:

Taken July last year on my last visit to Vigan City, it was my first time to travel there alone and because it rained in the afternoon, I just took the time to sit in one of the benches along the Crisologo Street. It was my favorite past time every time I go there, and as I looked up on the rustic buildings along the street, I saw these two kids taking a peek by the window. For a while I was jealous of them... seeing the Crisologo Street from the top is something I really missed.

Cactus

Cactus

For the nature section of Weekday Photos, the theme is "Cactus in Black and White." At first I thought I don't have a picture taken of the cactus, but I was happy to find this image, something I took during my vacation in Pangasinan last April.

The time I took this, we were waiting for the boat to come that would take us to a nearby island. One of the houses had some pots of cactus in her front yard, and it was just instinct telling me to take out my camera and snap some pictures. In a place where people don't have the luxury of owning a camera, me taking pictures of something aside from people seemed weird. Well, weird as it can be, I was actually happy to be able to take this picture.

Coins

09 - Currency

Tuesdays on Weekday Photos is macro, and given the theme: coins, I only have this to share. Taken last month, I took this picture as part of a photo hunt I joined in. These coins existed here in the Philippines back in the olden days - after the Spanish era, the Philippines was under the United States, and these coins had the symbol of the USA on one side, and the symbol of the Philippines on the other side.

My late father owns these coins. He had a purse with the coins in it - something very precious, because these coins were made from real silver. Part of the coin collection was actually melted and molded to become my parents' wedding rings, which made these coins quite precious to me.

The Cranky Parrots

For this week's Creative Colors in Weekday Photos, it's about "blue and yellow," and checking my files, I only have pictures of the Cranky Parrots to choose from. This particular picture was taken May 2009 in Baluarte, a zoo in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. I call them the cranky parrots because they make sounds whenever someone comes near them - as if telling people that they didn't want them. I have big fear on birds (I am afraid of the beaks), so I didn't dare come near them, I just used the zoom on my camera to take their pictures.

They have a little green on their crown, but then again, their feathers were mostly blue and yellow, so I guess this picture is good enough for the theme. :)

The Lone Tree

Sunset

For this week on the nature section of the Weekday Photos, the theme was "Lonely Tree," and I couldn't find any more suiting photo but this one, which I took last year (sorry, I wasn't able to change the namestamp to 2009) when my brother and thought of making a side trip to the Thunderbird Resorts in San Fernando, La Union. Near the resort is the South China Sea, which gives a great view of the sunset, and before we left the resort, I saw this leafless tree and took one last shot before heading off.

To date, this is one of my favorite sunset shots.
