Scavenger Hunt Sunday - Week 9

Even without a camera, I still don't want to miss the hunt, so using my cell phone, here's my take on this week's items:

In my our home, my brother and I try to cook dishes to satisfy our always hungry tummies. Sometimes, these foods were passed down recipes, or favorite dishes, or sometimes we try to follow new recipes printed on different culinary magazines we collect. This dish was one of those new dishes, and even if there were hesitations because our cousin is vacationing here in our house, I was so glad she liked this dish. I gained a new fan! :) The dish by the way is Stir Fried Chili Prawns.




It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like...

My cousin, our neighbor Ria and I went to the Dapitan Arcade this afternoon, and as soon as we entered the road strip, I was in awe of the many Santa Claus figures I saw. Oh yeah, it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Ho ho ho!

Yesterday, brother went to Sto. Tomas, Batangas to attend the Confirmation Rites of the son of his girlfriend's sister. Donna (the sister) is a pastry baker, and because she let brother stay in their house for the night, she was able to bake some goodies for brother to take home, her Christmas gift for our family. These little cupcakes are called "Cranberry Blondies," and it was so delicious! This is my first time to taste cranberry flavored food, and this one I liked a lot. Aside from the cranberries, it also has walnuts and chocolate chunks inside. Heaven in a cup!

I am a writer, so everyday, one could see me typing away the words to get the "kaching" sound. :) I am also an avid Reality TV fan, and because networks here don't show different programs from different countries, I can only get my RTV fix via YouTube. While writing or editing pictures for my blogs, a tab in my netbook always has a place for my RTVs. I am currently watching the series 6 of "The Apprentice UK."

Red / Pink Poinsettia

I wasn't feeling well yesterday, so my post for today will link to two blogs - Macro Flowers Saturday and SOOC Sunday.




My friend Ria and I have already talked about going to the weekend market today, so even if there was a problem with the traffic, and we found ourselves stuck in traffic, we still pushed through with it. I was excited about this because my cousin is vacationing here in our house, and I would like to show her different places in the Metro before she travel back to La Union tomorrow.

When we got to the weekend market, we were greeted with so many poinsettias - a prominent flower during the Christmas season. From what I know, the flowers of the poinsettia is actually the small yellow ones in the middle, not the leaf like reddish things, because it is actually the leaves, which changes in colors.

Red is one of the well known color, but now, farmers (or horticulturist, if I can call them that) are able to come up with with different colors and patterns - there's now the pink, yellow, white, white with red, and this one, red with pink.

I took this picture using my cell phone. Pretty impressive, eh?

The Silver Lining

Losing a camera made me really, really feel bad... especially that I will be traveling by air. Since my cell phone is the only other medium I can use, I felt really devastated because cell phones have to be off the whole ride. My silver lining was that my dear K had his camera out, and because I was sitting on the window side and he was sitting in the middle seat, I asked if it would be okay for me to use his camera during the whole flight. I was happy he lent me his camera.

This picture was taken during our flight back to Manila from Iloilo. The plane just took off, and because I love to see the scenery from the window, I really took quite a lot of pictures. I love sun rays, so seeing them at a different perspective made the trip much worthwhile.

Bukas (Open)

Isa sa mga taunang festivals na aking laging inaabangan ay ang Panagbenga Festival sa Baguio City, at dahil isa akong manlalakbay na may limitadong budget, ang aking ginagawa ay kumuha ng biyahe sa gabi at igugol na lamang ang oras sa paglakbay kaysa bumyahe ng mas maaga at kumuha ng kwarto sa hotel. Hangga't makakatipid ako, kakayanin ko.

{One of the yearly festivals that I always anticipate is the Panagbenga Festival in Baguio City; and because I am a traveler on a budget, what I do is to get a bus trip late at night so I can spend the night traveling, rather than getting a hotel room and stay there overnight. As long as I can handle, I'd try my best to lessen my expenses.}

Madalas, ako ay bumibyahe gabi bago ang araw ng Grand Street Parade, para pagdating ko sa Baguio, alam kong saglit na lamang ang aking hihintayin. Hindi naman ako talagang hirap, dahil pagdating ko sa Baguio, alam kong mayroong isang lugar na maari kong puntahan - ang Baguio Cathedral, dahil ang simbahang iyon ay nagbubukas sa madaling araw, hindi lamang ako nakahanap ng panandaliang sisilungan, nasisimulan ko pa ang aking araw sa isang panalangin.

{At most times, what I do is to travel the night before the Grand Street Parade, so when I arrive in Baguio, I know I will just have to wait for a few more hours. It's not a difficult thing to do, really, because when I arrive, I know there is a place I can go to - the Baguio Cathedral, because I know the church is open very early in the morning. Not only am I able to find a temporary shelter, I could also start my day with prayers.}




Dito na rin ako sa may simbahan naghihintay ng pagsikat ng araw, hudyat para ako ay humanap ng pwesto sa may Session Road upang hintayin ang parada.

{It is also in the grounds of the church where I wait for the sunrise, a signal for me to find a place along Session Road for the parade.}

T - Tassel Flower

One of the things I like about myself as a photographer is that my eyes can notice little things in the background - like a little bug on a flower, or a small flower amid the many grasses and green leaves. This tassel flower I spotted while my mom and I were walking out of the neighborhood. The flower is smaller than my pinkie finger yet its orange color caught the sides of my eyes, and I quickly stopped to take a picture of it.

Somehow, though, I felt I didn't give the flower some justice because the orange bristles weren't sharp, yet the base of the flower was. Well, it was really quite difficult to take macro pictures of small flowers using a point and shoot camera, and it was difficult to take pictures while part of my sight was with my mom checking how far she was from me already.

If I spot this flower again, I'd surely take my time in taking a picture of it.
