G - Gerber Daisy

Gerber Daisy

For letter "G," I am sharing a picture of an orange Gerber Daisy, which I photographed while in the Weekend Market of the Lung Center of the Philippines last May. If you are a frequent visitor of this blog, I have told time and time again that I love taking pictures of the flowers at this weekend market because there were just a lot of flowers to take pictures of, and a photo enthusiast like me are welcome to take pictures of the flowers.

I first heard of this flower as "Gerbera" through a local soap opera when I was about 14 years old. When I went to school the following day, I made a trip to the library to check this one on the encyclopedia, and I understood why the character in the soap opera considered this one as her favorite flower.

I have seen different colors of this flower: yellow, white, orange, red. However, the rarest and probably the most beautiful I have seen was the hot pink one. Unfortunately, I cannot locate the picture in my file anymore; maybe it was saved in the DVD and I cannot access it at the moment.

Very intense colour! Gerbera daisies - sometimes called African daisies - are indigenous to South Africa and the common one that is now hybridized and cultivated all over the world is known here as the Barberton Daisy from the little town where is comes from. See http://www.plantzafrica.com/plantefg/gerberajames.htm

I planted one of these in my flower garden this Spring and it has bloomed three times for me. Mine is a red Gerbera Daisy. When they bloom I think they are so beautiful, it is a favorite of mine. Great choice for G Day.

What an amazing color this daisy is...orange with a hint of yellow trim. Maybe the bottom of each petal is yellow? Well, they're beautiful, and a great choice for G day!!
