Scavenger Hunt Sunday - Week 4

After a much needed nap after 10 hours of traveling from Vigan City to Quezon City, plus nearly an hour more of waiting for mom and bro to arrive at the bus terminal (it's their turn to travel), I am now very much okay, and I feel no more headaches. My legs and feet still feel worn out, but it's the kind of pain that I wanted - because it made me feel fulfilled of how much experience I had last weekend.

As for this week's Scavenger Hunt, I am happy to say that I used all fresh photos. Woo hoo! My take:

Fishing Village

#01 - My Town
Bacnotan, La Union
27 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

Monday and Tuesday of this week, I was very busy finishing things I needed to finish because I won't be bringing my net book. I wasn't able to take a picture of my town, but I was able to take this - a picture of my other town. My dad hailed from this town, and at one point in my life I lived for more than a year in this town, so I also consider it mine, because I travel to this place numerous times in a year since my dad died (he was buried in a cemetery in the next town).

This image was just a part of the fishing village in Paratong. When we arrived in Bacnotan, my friend Ria and I noticed that the sun was slowly disappearing in the sky, so instead of getting a tricycle to our house, we asked the driver to take us to Paratong Beach to watch the sunset.

The colors in the picture was caused by the orange rays of the sun.

Vintage

#02 - Something Vintage
Grandpa's Inn
Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Sony Ericsson K800i}

On our last day of "vacation," my friend and I traveled to Vigan City from Bacnotan, and we decided to eat lunch at Cucina Felicitas, located at the grounds of Grandpa's Inn. After lunch, we went to the concierge to check their room rates, and although there was a cheap room, we decided not to take it because it didn't have an en suite bathroom.

These vintage telephone and electric fan were just a few of the many vintage stuff located at the lobby of the inn. It was so amazing!

Tilt Shift Attempt

#03 - Tilt Shift Photography
Thunderbird Resorts
San Fernando City, La Union
28 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

I am not good at editing pictures (I don't know how to use Photoshop and I mostly use GIMP for resizing and name-stamping my images), so this picture was processed using the Tilt Shift Maker. This was a picture I took at the board walk in the grounds of Thunderbird Resorts - our last stop before eating dinner on this particular day. Like the first picture, the brownish hues in the picture was caused by the golden sunset. Tides had been very strong in the last few days, and seeing the water splash just made me wait for the splash so I could take some pictures. I got lucky in this particular shot.

Dress Up

#04 - Dress Up (In Disguise)
Vigan Plaza Hotel
Vigan City, Ilocos Sur
30 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

My friend (the one in pink) and I were supposed to go to the Empanadaan at the Padre Burgos Plaza, but the flock of people at the back part of the park made us want to check what the commotion was about. We found out that there will be a Halloween Street Party, and when we saw these men all dressed up for the Halloween, we just knew we had to have even just a picture.

I also posed with these men, and when I uploaded my picture in my Facebook, a scrapbooking friend (who hailed from Vigan City) said that the one with the orange wig was her father, and that these men were the City Councilors. Oh cool!

It's so great seeing politicians taking part of a city's festival.

Kiss

#05 - Chocolate
31 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

I am not a chocolate person. I guess having a father who probably had the biggest sweet tooth I've known, I grew up not really eating chocolate candies because my late father would hog most of the chocolates in the house.

When mom and I went to Subic two weekends ago, we also passed by a Duty Free grocery shop and seeing some chocolates on sale, mom just bought one bag of Hershey's Kisses. This picture I just took right before writing this post - although I love eating chocolate laden foods like cake, ice cream, brownies, etc... I just couldn't eat choco candies. I just took one from the bag to take this shot, and after, I sealed the chocolate again and placed it back in the fridge. I am quite certain this bag of chocolates will expire even before my family finish eating the pieces.

I loved this week's items, and I am hoping I will be able to do all 5 items for next week. Thanks for hopping by here.

Crocs in Session

Crocs in Session

I got home from my short vacation in La Union and Vigan City this morning, but I still haven't transferred all the pictures, so what I will share was taken from two weekends ago, when mom and I went to Zoobic Safari with some of her office mates.

Part of the safari tour was the Croco Loco, where guests walk along the metal bridgeway with the crocs under. As soon as we entered the place, I immediately took interest in this group - seemed there was a teacher or a leader talking to a group of students or members. One on the upper right side had its mouth open - must be the one speaking? Hahahaha.

Surfing Break, Here I Come!

Today, I am traveling to La Union with our neighbor Ria. On Friday, we'd be going to Urbiztondo Beach in the town of San Juan to watch the Surfing Break. We will just be attending the first day of the festival, and the next day we will travel to Vigan City.

I won't be bringing my net book, so I am on a blog holiday 'til I get home on the 31st. See you all then!

Earth

16 - earth

It was June of 2009 when I took this one, as part of the very first Photo Hunt Challenge I joined (this one was voted the favorite picture for the "earth" theme). I was cleaning in our garden when I saw some earthworms hiding under the flower pots. I quickly grabbed my camera to take a picture, and I was lucky to still see this one, possibly a foot or two away from where I first saw it.

In elementary, I was taught not to be afraid of earthworms as they help cultivate the lands. Well, being a frustrated biologist that I am, am surely not afraid of most bugs or creepy creatures (if you are to call this one like that)... they really make photography a lot interesting.

Temple

I was writing a blog post about Ma-Cho Temple in my travel blog (you can read it HERE) when I realized I had so many red pictures taken in the area, so I decided to post this particular picture here. During my past visits to the temple, the only way for me to take a picture of this one was to zoom in from the ground, but because the care takers of the temple asked us to come in, I was able to get a good vantage point to shoot this. Actually, I had to thank the care taker for showing me this - when he saw I had a camera in my hand, he was giddy to show me this and encouraged me to take a picture.

I will sure to check the temple again this week, and I am already excited.

Scavenger Hunt Sunday - Week 3

Week three... just like last week, my interpretations were a mix of new and old images, because some were something I wasn't able to take.

Senses

#01 - 5 Senses
25 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

Something I took this morning; I was supposed to take this last night, but my sister always get home late at night, and always too tired to pose for pictures. Actually, this was a very impromptu shot - I just asked her to pose real quick for this one. This was slightly different to my first thoughts, but I couldn't find a good angle, so I just clicked the shutter. :) When I read about this theme, I immediately thought of taking a head shot, with hands and with tongue sticking out, representing the 5 senses - eyes (sight), nose (smell), ears (hearing), hands (touch), and tongue (taste).

Mika

#02 - Child/Children
23 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

I was blessed to be invited by my mom to go to Zoobic Safari with some of her office mates. It was a great experience, but I wasn't able to fully enjoy it (picture wise) because rains poured every now and then. Anyway, this picture I took while inside the van; the child was the granddaughter of mom's office mate (the one holding the child). She was so cute, and it was a good timing to have taken a picture of her drooling. :)

Tong Yang

#03 - Dining
Tong Yang Shabu-Shabu & Barbecue Restaurant
SM City Fairview, Quezon City
19 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000iw}

My sister works at a different Shabu-Shabu Restaurant, and Tong Yang was one of the restaurants diners at their place often spoke about, so on her last day off, she asked if we could eat at Tong Yang so she could taste their Shabu-Shabu (a soup diners cook themselves using the stove / pots on their tables). My sister still liked their own (of course), but she also said the soup here was delicious, too. This was a picture I took upon entering the restaurant.

Tong Yang is an "eat all you can buffet," and the island in the middle had so much choices to be used in the soup, or to barbecue on hot plates. I really took advantage on the expensive fish fillets we rarely eat at home. :)

Enchanted Kingdom

#04 - Night
Enchanted Kingdom
Sta. Rosa, Laguna
04 April 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

I am not a night person, so this item I really had a difficult time taking. I just went to the vaults for this one, and this picture was taken before we left Enchanted Kingdom, one of the country's most popular theme parks. I was privileged to be invited for one of their bloggers' events, and although this part of the park (Victoria Park) looked great during daytime, seeing the lights at night gave it a different persona, which I really liked.

Manila South Harbor

#05 - Sky
Manila South Harbor
07 October 2010
{Canon Powershot A1000is}

Another difficult shot to take due to endless rains, so I just took one from the vaults (but this one wasn't that old). I really love seeing sun rays, so when I saw this while brother and I were on board the Galeon Andalucia, I quickly took a photo. It felt as if the heavens opened up to drop the earth some blessings. :)

I will be traveling up north mid-week, but I will try my best to take pictures for the next photo hunt. I am not promising, though - I might come home a little later.
